7 Ways to Glow: Alternative Steps for Ageing Skin

The glow of youthful skin is something that many women want to keep for as long as possible. As we age, it becomes more difficult but there are some steps you can take to make sure your skin stays healthy and glowing! In this blog post, we will be discussing 7 alternative ways to help aging skin become the best version of itself without relying on expensive products.

Beauty

The first step is to make sure you are staying hydrated. To keep your skin looking young and fresh, it is important to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Dehydration causes the appearance of dryness in our body which then emphasizes wrinkles and aging signs. Drinking enough water helps replenish cells within tissue- the building blocks that make up healthy skin!

Eat Well

You want to have a nutrient-dense diet so that your entire body functions properly and remains strong. Including “good fats” in foods such as salmon, flaxseed, and almonds boost hydration which keeps skin supple and firm. However, the same isn’t true for saturated fat found in dairy products or meats because this increases free-radical damage making skin more susceptible to aging. Limit saturated fat intake to about 17 grams daily.

Sun Protection

Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is another important aspect of aging skin. To age beautifully, wear sunscreen every day. The sun’s UVA rays can cause wrinkles and spots in about 12 weeks if you’re not wearing SPF 30 (ideally) daily! If your moisturizer isn’t already formulated with a built-in broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen, add one more step to your routine to block both types of the Sun’s UVB/UVA radiation.

Wearing sunscreen helps prevent the damaging effects of sun exposure over time, including wrinkles, fine lines and discoloration. It also protects against early development or worsening conditions such as freckles, moles, or even some cancers.

Skin Exfoliation

The skin on your face is constantly regenerating, and this means that dead cells are being replaced by new ones. Exfoliating allows for these old or dead cells to be removed so space can open up in the pore. This ensures a fresh layer of healthy-looking pores from which our complexion has room to grow!

Get a good night's sleep

One way to maintain a youthful appearance is by getting rest. When you sleep, your body releases hormones that promote cell renewal and turnover; this is when using age-defying actives such as retinoids and beta hydroxy acid are effective at erasing wrinkles. Sunscreen should be used with these because they increase your sensitivity to sunlight due to the exfoliating effects of them being increased during times of deep sleeping. To take it further consider upgrading pillowcases from cotton or linen for ones made out of satin which reduces lines in skin overtime through less friction caused by tossing around while asleep on rougher fabrics like cotton or linen over time.

Manage Stress

Your emotional state can affect your physical appearance. Constant stress increases cortisol, which breaks down collagen and causes redness and acne flare-ups that may make you look up to 5 years older than your chronological age. To reduce inflammation and break the chain of responses caused by increased levels of cortisol, eat antioxidant-rich foods such as berries, oranges or asparagus.

For a quick fix, psychiatrist Amy Wechsler, MD, author of The Mind-Beauty Connection recommends practicing deep breathing. “A few minutes of it can help reduce tension,” she says.

When you’re feeling tense, try spending three counts inhaling through your nose and exhaling out your mouth to relax or try a simple yoga routine to wind down after a stressful day.

Shower with Hot Water & Cold Rinse

Showering with hot water for a short amount of time and then finishing up with cold can help keep you looking young. Doing this daily increases blood flow which helps prevent wrinkles, it also stimulates collagen production in the dermal layer to reduce them! Try showering at least once per day but if possible three times per week for best results.
